Why the World Won’t End in 2012 – According to NASA

Interesting article from NASA. As we move into 2012, I think we will need to re-evaluate how we relate to each other and work together and we can’t keep doing the same things – look at our world, government leaders and the U.S. economy. But the world isn’t going to end anytime soon, according to NASA.

2012: Beginning of the End or Why the World Won’t End?

Scenes from the motion picture “2012.” Courtesy Columbia Pictures. Remember the Y2K scare? It came and went without much of a whimper because of adequate planning and analysis of the situation. Impressive movie special effects aside, Dec. 21, 2012, won’t be the end of the world as we know. It will, however, be another winter solstice.

Much like Y2K, 2012 has been analyzed and the science of the end of the Earth thoroughly studied. Contrary to some of the common beliefs out there, the science behind the end of the world quickly unravels when pinned down to the 2012 timeline. Below, NASA Scientists answer several questions that we’re frequently asked regarding 2012.

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 — hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.

Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012?
A: Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then — just as your calendar begins again on January 1 — another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar.

Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

“There apparently is a great deal of interest in celestial bodies, and their locations and trajectories at the end of the calendar year 2012. Now, I for one love a good book or movie as much as the next guy. But the stuff flying around through cyberspace, TV and the movies is not based on science. There is even a fake NASA news release out there…”
- Don Yeomans, NASA senior research scientistQ: Is there a planet or brown dwarf called Nibiru or Planet X or Eris that is approaching the Earth and threatening our planet with widespread destruction?
A: Nibiru and other stories about wayward planets are an Internet hoax. There is no factual basis for these claims. If Nibiru or Planet X were real and headed for an encounter with the Earth in 2012, astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye. Obviously, it does not exist. Eris is real, but it is a dwarf planet similar to Pluto that will remain in the outer solar system; the closest it can come to Earth is about 4 billion miles.

Q: What is the polar shift theory? Is it true that the earth’s crust does a 180-degree rotation around the core in a matter of days if not hours?
A: A reversal in the rotation of Earth is impossible. There are slow movements of the continents (for example Antarctica was near the equator hundreds of millions of years ago), but that is irrelevant to claims of reversal of the rotational poles. However, many of the disaster websites pull a bait-and-shift to fool people. They claim a relationship between the rotation and the magnetic polarity of Earth, which does change irregularly, with a magnetic reversal taking place every 400,000 years on average. As far as we know, such a magnetic reversal doesn’t cause any harm to life on Earth. A magnetic reversal is very unlikely to happen in the next few millennia, anyway.

Earth, as seen in the Blue Marble: Next Generation collection of images, showing the color of the planet’s surface in high resolution. This image shows South America from September 2004.Q: Is the Earth in danger of being hit by a meteor in 2012?
A: The Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs. All this work is done openly with the discoveries posted every day on the NASA NEO Program Office website, so you can see for yourself that nothing is predicted to hit in 2012.

Q: How do NASA scientists feel about claims of pending doomsday?
A: For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

NASA Offers Millions For Space Technology Delivered By 2012

2012 olympics site in London

NASA seems to have a big interest in acquiring top-notch space travel equipment by the year 2012. They are offering hundreds of millions of dollars to companies who can design and build high tech space travel vehicles. Why is the year 2012 so important to NASA and the Government?

Is this just a goal timetable, or is 2012 the deadline? The NASA website clearly says “no later than 2012″, so this is a deadline.  According to President Bush’s earlier speeches, he plans to put men on the moon again by 2012. He speaks about moon bases, manned Mars missions, and the likes. Why this big space pushes by 2012?

According to the ancients, 2012 is supposed to be the end of Human life, as we know it. A dimensional shift. This theory is just gaining creditability, even though it was preached more than 5,000 years ago. If you are unfamiliar with the theory, Google it.  You will be overwhelmed by the results.

One could argue NASA and Other Governmental Agencies are aware of what will happen in 2012, and are preparing for it, and others can argue 2012 is a random date that just happened to fall in the same year as the Ancient Mayans and Sumerians predicted.

In April, 2003 NASA Released This

NASA announced approximately $135 million will be awarded to three competing contractor teams to continue support of NASA’s Orbital Space Plane program under the Space Launch Initiative to provide crew rescue and transfer capabilities to the International Space Station. The three system design contractor teams — The Boeing Company of Seal Beach, Calif.; Lockheed Martin Corp. of Denver; and a team including Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles, Va., and Northrop Grumman of El Segundo, Calif. — will each receive approximately $45 million to design potential candidates for the system, including the Orbital Space Plane vehicle or vehicles, ground operations and all supporting technologies needed to conduct a mission to and from the Space Station.

NASA today announced approximately $135 million dollars will be awarded to three competing contractor teams to continue support of NASA’s Orbital Space Plane program under the Space Launch Initiative to provide crew rescue and transfer capabilities to the International Space Station.

The awards are a part of a contract modification of a Cycle 1 Space Launch Initiative solicitation originally awarded in May 2001. This modification extends existing contracts through July 2004.

The Orbital Space Plane program will provide the capability for crew rescue by 2010 and the capability for crews to transfer to and from the International Space Station by 2012

The contract modification includes work to develop system specifications, including systems analysis, trade studies and concept feasibility in preparation for NASA’s Orbital Space Plane Program’s Systems Requirements Review. The review, scheduled for October 2003, will evaluate the concept design based on the Level 1 requirements — guidelines that lay out the foundation and top-level needs of the system. The review will also set Level 2 requirements that will further narrow the scope of the system design, including requirements for crew safety, cost, and interfacing with launch vehicles and the Space Station.

Once the Systems Requirements Review is complete, the contractors will begin work on the next phase, which includes trade studies, development of a conceptual design that meets Level 2 requirements and supporting analysis leading to NASA’s Systems Design Review, scheduled for April 2004. The Systems Design Review is a NASA-led review to validate the Level 2 requirements and determine Level 3 requirements to more precisely define the needs and specifications of the system. A full-scale development decision by NASA is expected in the fall of 2004.

The Orbital Space Plane program supports U.S. International Space Station requirements for crew rescue, crew transport, and contingency cargo such as supplies, food and other needed equipment. The system will initially launch on an expendable launch vehicle to provide rescue capability for no fewer than four Space Station crew members as soon as practical — but no later than 2010. It will also provide transportation capability for no fewer than four crew members to and from the Space Station as soon as practical — but no later than 2012

2012 – Surviving The Coming Earth Changes

The big hullabaloo from Roland Emmerich’s film 2012, and all the disaster films we’ve been seeing for the last 50-60 years or so is scaring the heck out of viewers. So badly are they scared of the end that they are watching the same movies of disaster, over and over, with different actors, different titles, and different producers – all aimed to scare you and empty your pockets.

Do you think the world is coming to an end? The World Isn’t Coming To An End, it’s just Hollywood, trying to make a buck.

Let’s get real. Let’s discuss some of what’s going on:

1. Rumor: The World Will End With Planetary Alignment and the repositioning of the Earth along the Galactic Equator …. they are nuts! The phenomena of placement of the stars and galaxies in space is not new. These things have occurred before, and it wasn’t the end of the world. Actually, the date predicted, Winter Solstice, 2012 is not as significant as other astronomical phenomena happening before this. This is just fear-mongering of the formerly unemployed ‘ of the world writers’ with nothing better to do than create movies to scare the bejesus out of little kids.

2. The Mayan Prophesy says the world is coming to an end. There is no known prophesy that the world is coming to an End and whoever said that should know that it can’t be. The records of the Maya civilization were effectively destroyed, like all other Meso-American histories by the Conquering Spanish, and what was kept – was kept in secret archives to keep the truth away from the public because it would destroy the Catholic Church. The evidence indicated that the majority of the Meso-American population was, in fact, the lost tribes of Israel. This was written by Franciscan Monks at the time of the invasion, and British and other archeologists later. The actual Mayan Prophesy was simple – ‘Live naturally, in natural time, or your biosphere (Earth – our mother ship) would not survive. We’ll we did it. No lying about that. For the past umpteen years, we have been just like conquerors, raping, murdering, and killing mother earth. OOPS! I didn’t do it – you didn’t do it – the politicians allowed it – all for greed. Oil, Gold, Silver – rape the earth suffers the consequences. The end date of the Mayan Calendar had nothing to do with the end of the planet, it had to do with the end of an era.

2a. When the Earth was first inhabited there was something of a 3 degree axis tilt and the planet was green, and water blue, and life was abundant. What by the name of God have we done to our mother?

2b. And now, YIKES, we’re at 23 degree wobble now. Yes, something is happening, changes are occurring, but it’s not the end. It scares people to think that changes are coming – people fear change. CHANGE IS GOOD!

2c. Will people will die? Of course, people are already dying. Yes, we’ve burned fossil fuels, destroyed our air, cut down our forests, created deserts where there were none before and previously the planet cleansed itself with great floods. People are dying, we are more aware since Hurricane Katrina, that things are not right due to global warming, and Tsunamis, great floods, and thousands more deaths in countries where floods were a rarity.

2d. Species are dying. Faster than ever before species are disappearing. One indication that might be considered, or two, are the frog population which began disappearing a few years back, and the bees. We are impacting nature and we don’t step lightly – our footprint is huge and visible, and we are destroying all of life without mistreatment of our mother.

2e. Now there are more diseases, more horrible, more incurable – a sick society and planet produce all forms of diseases.

3. It’s human nature – It’s obvious that the nature of the human being is to conquer. The continuous development of warfare, atomic, and nuclear weaponry is solely aimed at the destruction of mankind and hurting the planet. Previously, we had been the only big bully playing with nukes, now every schoolyard bully has them and someone is likely to play war games just to demonstrate my ‘thingie’ is bigger than your ‘thingie’.

3a. Human Belief in Ancient Religions – I must mention this, because this is the greatest manipulation of human beings on Earth. Sorry, priest, ministers, rabbis, I honor you all for what you know, but your DOGMA is not helping the situation. Each one of you has chosen an individual branch as part of the Tree of Life, and none of you are on the Expressway to God. Please stop telling your people they are sinners – as men of God, many of you have been caught with your own pants down around your ankles and some honey taking some money for some SINFUL and LUSTFUL experience you needed to have. It may not have been you, but we all know of whom I speak. I am not judging you – just stop judging others and stop playing the blame game which results in guilt. As you know – guilt has absolutely no survival value, it is responsible for many illnesses that do not resolve and result in death. Stop guilting others, or …

3b. Did You Know That Humans Mistreat Each Other and Mother Earth Too – imagine all the drilling, the cutting of trees, the burning of fields, everything normal and beautiful of earth destroyed by greed to steal the resources and be billionaires, all at the cost of our mother. Imagine our planet as a great big fluffy dog, filled with life. And the dog feels the burring of something drilling into it – just like a flea. And another, burning like burning the trees – the dog begins to scratch and shake fiercely and the fleas fall off. You got a parachute for when this happens to us?

4. The Mayan Calendar – Interestingly enough does end on the Winter Solstice, 2012. Why? Not because it’s the end of the world – it’s just the end of the 5th Cycle of Life on the Planet. The 6th Cycle that begins immediately thereafter and is called the Age of Enlightenment. It’s sounds like an exciting time to be alive – so get prepared!

WELCOME – this is reality.

Many of us will fall off, many of us will die. Those who are not prepared, and those who think they are better or more greater, more important or more powerful than Mother Earth that we live on, will suffer.

Virgin Airline’s Richard Branson has made his fleet of Intergalactic Space ships to take the rich and wealthy off the planet, just like Roland Emmerich has set of Arks in his movie. Branson’s ticket price is much cheaper.

I’M STAYING RIGHT HERE ON EARTH

In 1987, the Harmonic Convergence, as written about by Dr. Jose Arguelles, and my participation in it – by travels through endless ruins, culminating at the El Tule Tree in Oaxaca in Mexico, spoke the prophesy that we had 25 years left of life as we knew it. We must return to natural, non-destructive living. We blew it!

Now the cards are laid out on the table. Natural disasters are not done by nature but by those politicians who paid no heed to the warnings.

What can the scenario possibly be — to cause the end of life as we know it? Who knows, asteroids, meteorites, some crazy Anti-Semitic Iranian ex-president who stole the presidency from the people in order to try to wipe out the State of Israel, some angry Korean president who is dying because of his anger at the United States over a 60 year old situation, or errors by our own major powers in their thinking that nuclear energy is stable enough to survive what our earth going through with hurricanes, tsunamis, typhoons, earthquakes, and worse. All the time our earth, which I’d like to assimilate it to be life this this big furry yellow dog who it tired of all the baggage she’s carrying and begins shaking off the fleas. The fleas are US!

HOW TO SURVIVE THIS?

Like a Boy Scout: Be prepared. More than anything else – it’s your mind and soul that need preparation. Since we all know that the soul is immortal, you will survive in one form or another. We have prepared the first of several guides on survival. This first one was just updated Nov. 2009, originally written in 1991 – to help you survive what is undoubtedly going to be a life-changing experience.

Will We Die In 2012 If The Mayan Calendar Really Ends?, Yes Or No

The question “Will we die in 2012 because the Mayan calendar runs out?” is being asked with increasing frequency as we move from 2009 in 2010 and beyond. Supposedly, the world is going to end in 2012 when this calendar runs out of days, though it is just as often the case that just as many people are able to point to a myriad of apocalyptic scenarios that have never proven themselves out in history.

As to the specific nature of the calendar itself and whether or not it really does run out and what it can portend for all of us, many experts have taken the time to study it and most will say that the calendar itself actually doesn’t run out. They make no guarantees, though, about these apocalyptic or end-time scenarios because they are not a matter for logic but are, rather, a matter for emotion.

Collectively, the phenomenon known as “2012″ can be given to a variety of proposals and beliefs that try to argue for some sort of transformative, cataclysmic or even apocalyptic event that will take place in that year, specifically on either December 21 or December 23, 2012. These are the two dates in which the calendar is supposed to come to some sort of an end in a technical sense.

These forecasts are arrived at by looking at what the Mayan Long Count Calendar — as the calendar is more formally known — and then calculating its beginning point and its ending point, which is said to be 5125 years away from the beginning. The arguments in support of this apocalyptic vision are mainly drawn from mythology and archeo-astronomical calculations that may or may not be correct.

Also, those people who say that the calendar purports to show some sort of transformative or apocalyptic event occurring on either of those days in December of 2012 rely on highly unprovable numerological calculations and even ancient prophecies supposedly made by extraterrestrials. None of these claims are non-falsifiable; which means that none can be disproven through logic and science because they are so illogical.

For the most part, any real scholar of Mayan history, culture and society can make a very logical and convincing argument that there is no real “end” to the calendar which supposedly occurs in the year 2012. Additionally, modern Mayans are almost uniform in considering the year 2012 to be a fairly irrelevant occurrence within the context of the calendar. Lastly, much of Mayan history is obscure.

It is maintained by supporters of the 2012 apocalypse or transformation that a number of events will occur. These events, like many other events by many other apocalyptic movements involve things like black holes, collisions with rogue planets or the shifting of our poles. Most such predictions are based on pseudoscience and just about every prediction violates bedrock laws of physics.

Humans, as a species, tend to be attracted to apocalypse because it holds such a frightening allure, meaning as it does the extinction of our race. Throughout history, people have flocked to apocalyptic movements, none of which have ever actually experienced success. The proof of that is that we are still here, though most any movement manages to come up with an excuse for why the apocalypse did not occur that time.

The Mayan prophecies claims that the world will end in 2012. It’s been the subject of heated debates over decades and now people are wondering, Will We Die In 2012 ?” Learn more about this prediction and the Mayan calendar now.
