The Book Of Mormon Unveiled – Is It Based On The Bible?

For those who don’t know yet, the Book of Mormon was first published in 1830 by a certain Joseph Smith Jr., who claimed to have found gold plates that he discovered buried (in 1823) near his home at Manchester NY. Joseph also stated that a divine being literally guided him to the plates. The plates were encrypted in something similar to ancient Egyptian, which took Joseph the good part of seven years to decipher. The book speaks of the story of Adam and Eve, and also the last days, very much like the Bible does. However, as we will see – there are also striking differences between classic Christianity and Mormonism.

This publication led to the establishment of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, and its members are referred to as Mormons or Latter Day Saints. As with any new doctrine, Mormonism was, and still is, often frowned upon by the classic believers and some even refer to Mormonism as evil. On the other hand, the Mormons claim that they do not preach anything out of context as far as the Bible goes, and are themselves said believers of the Bible as well. The book of Mormon, they claim compliments the Bible and not oppose it.

The Church of Latter Day Saints having been initiated in America, Mormonism obviously has a faithful following in the country – more than any other country to date, in fact. However, the religion has spread far and wide, thanks to the undying (and often frowned upon) efforts of Mormon ‘missionaries’. Mormonism is propagated more through word of mouth than any other methodical approach, and their seemingly hush-hush meets sometimes leads to the belief that Mormonism is a cult, or more of a fraternity than a true religion.

The most striking difference between classic Christianity and Mormonism is probably the difference in opinion on God. Mormons believe in different forms of the Supreme Being, even a man who attained enlightenment and practiced to perfection before being escalated into a state of godliness.

They believe in a God who has flesh and blood, and even a wife…The bible on the other hand clearly speaks of ONE Supreme Being, the creator of the universe and all things in it. Another touchy aspect of the Mormon-Christian arguments is the Mormon belief that the Bible probably has more than a few errors, and the ONE sacred and untouched text is the Book of Mormon. In answer, Christians believe that it is blasphemy to suggest such a thing!

10 Of The Strangest Mormon Beliefs – Overview of Latter Day Saints

While most religious traditions have beliefs that are considered bizarre by those outside that faith, Mormons seem to have the most beliefs that are routinely rejected by non-Mormons because of their oddness or their ability to be disproved. Here is a countdown of 10 of the most unusual Mormon beliefs.

10. The earth is 7,000 years old. There is no official statement by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints about the age of the earth, but many Mormons (and many Christians of some sects) believe that the age of the earth is on the order of thousands of years rather than billions calculated by widely accepted scientific methods.

9. Mars and Venus have dry rivers. The dry rivers on Mars and Venus were the source of the flowing rivers on earth. The theory is that the dry rivers on Mars and Venus “match” the rivers on Earth and that proves that all three planets were organized from the same source.

8. Dinosaur bones come from other planets. LDS Church Institute instructors teach that fossilized dinosaur bones are from creatures that lived on other worlds that were destroyed in the creation of the earth.

7. Mormon scripture teaches that Cain, who killed his brother Abel, was so evil that God “cursed” him with black skin, thus creating the African race. In a related belief, though the LDS church has deemed any worthy male to be part of the priesthood, black males were not recognized in this capacity until 1978.

6. In cases of the sin of murder, the murder of the sinner and the mixing of his blood with the earth bring forgiveness. In 1977 after the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty, Gary Gilmore chose to be executed by firing squad in Utah due to his belief in blood atonement.

5. In 1960, The Prophet Spencer W. Kimball taught that when Native Americans become Mormons their skin turns white. He said “The [Indian] children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.”

4. Also on the subject of Native Americans, the preface to the Book of Mormon from 1981 indicates that descendents of Lehi are a “remnant of the House of Israel” and were ancestors to American Indians. However, the DNA of Native Americans indicates an Asian origin.

3. When a marriage is sealed in the Temple, a husband can know his wife’s celestial name, but she cannot know his. This is so that if he so chooses, he can resurrect her after her death by calling her celestial name.

2. Mormons believe that after the resurrection, Jesus visited America and there he performed miracles and taught.

1. Kolub is a star mentioned in the Book of Abraham as being closest to the throne of God. The Book of Abraham is canonized by the LDS church, Mormon fundamentalist organizations, and other LDS sects. Kolub inspired “Kobol” in Mormon Glen A. Larson’s Battlestar Galactica universe.

Mormon Is A Cult – Fact Or Fiction? Latter Day Saints

Over the past 2 millennia, Christianity and the Catholic Church has evolved and grown to become the largest religious group in the world today. Although Christianity began as a Jewish sect with belief in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, over the centuries, many cults, sects, and groups like the Mormons, evolved to impart their own understanding and beliefs of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

All over the World, Christians and Christianity is often divided along ethnic, linguistic, beliefs and traditions. These differences gave birth to the different denominations in Christianity like the Puritans, Baptists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, and some cults and sects, and groups too – like the Mormons.

But are the Mormons really a cult or sect, or is there something more than that – or maybe less than what they are assumed to be. What are their beliefs, rites, rituals, and secrets? Generally, a cult or a sect is seen as Devil worshippers or those who are radically opposed to the beliefs of the majority, and even as separatists and fundamentalists.

The Mormons are members of the Mormon Church, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is a restorationist Christian church. It is the largest denomination, which originates from the movement founded by Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1830, and is also known as Latter Day Saint movement.

The central tenet of Latter Day Saint movement (LDS)/Mormons is their belief and faith in Jesus Christ. Despite their belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and the Savior, they are considered non-traditional members of Christianity. The Mormons believe in salvation only through Jesus Christ, but the differences with the Catholic Church and other major denominations, and Christian churches is their belief in the ?Book of Mormon?, from which the followers derived their name.

The Mormons believe that the ?Book of Mormon? was translated from some golden plates found by Joseph Smith and was first published in 1830. According to the Book, Mormon was a 4th century prophet/historian who compiled records of his ancestors in a book – Book of Mormon. The Book is believed to record the teachings of Jesus Christ, and many other prophets, and their travels and ministry among the civilizations of pre-Columbian Americas.

Besides the ?Bible? (Old and New Testament) as the main scriptural text, the Mormons also believe in scriptural text like The ?Book of Mormon?, ?Doctrine and Covenants?, and the ?Pearl of Great Price?, and this often sets them at loggerheads with the Catholic Church, and other denominations. Another of their beliefs is that Jesus Christ, as the leader and head of the Church, reveals HIS will and instructions to the President of the Church (looked upon as a modern day prophet), and individual members also receive revelations from GOD in conducting their daily life. Besides this, some fundamentalist Mormon groups also believe in plural marriages.

All these beliefs and differences sets them apart from the majority groups in Christianity, and hence the misconception that the Mormons are a cult/sect. But every human being has a right to try and find GOD, Truth, and religion in their own way, and with their own belief in what will lead them to salvation. As long as a group or movement does not indulge in mysterious rites, rituals, and human/animal sacrifices, it is not right to brand them as a cult or sect.

Can You Believe the 2012 Doomsday Prophecies?

Are you a superstitious person? One who always throws salt over their shoulder, or won’t step on a crack? Well you most likely know all about those 2012 doomsday prophecies already than. But are they real, is something going to happen when December 21, 2012 comes around? Or is it all some hype people have made up?

But when you ask some people, they say there is nothing stated in any of that history to point to this type of prophecy. There was a lot of Mayan information uncovered, but by far it’s not understood fully. Most likely it will never completely be understood either.

However, with most theories that are so impacting on life, it can be built up. Made to seem worse by people who add on to the tales and place it for everyone to see. Yes it’s freedom of speech and all that, but programs do seem to add to the theories of what may happen. And they are very popular; they started back in 2006 with the History Channel.

Such ideas as storms that would hit the world with devastating force, anything from volcanoes, earthquakes, and even solar flares. Possibly the mention of the magnetic poles of the Earth switching positions even.

Since the history isn’t really clear on how Mayan’s lived and all that, well this prophecy may just be conjecture. Something that was made up by a historian for a symbol or number they weren’t positive what it stood for.

Seeing as how those people who are present day Maya really hold nothing in significance to the year. They don’t really use the long count calendar anymore either. Perhaps it was something that was even created or thought up by someone who discovered part of the Mayan past.

No matter how you view it, in the long run you need to think about this. The end of 1999 when everyone thought computers would stop working. Did they?

Are you prepared for doomsday in 2012? Find out all the end of the world predictions and what to do to prepare. A doomsday that is foretold in the Mayan calendar and Chinese oracles, all pointing to one date, a date foretold as the end of the world. Don’t start praying until you read this new report, 2012 Predictions.

Facts About Oriental New Year Animals

Let us fin out what animal we are and the ancient history that led to the origins of the Chinese New Year animals.

The event of Chinese New Year is without a doubt considered to be the most important event in the Chinese lunar calendar. The traditional celebrations have been going on for years and the festive spirit is pretty much alive even today. The unique characteristic of the Chinese New Year is however the twelve year cycle that associates the coming of the year with an animal symbol.

The Chinese New Year animal follows a twelve year cycle and hence repeats. According to their present status, the following year should be the year of the Ox. The old philosophers of China have done a research on the behavior of the animals and have drawn a similarity between their personality characteristics and human nature.

Thereby if any person is born on the year of a certain animal he is supposed to bear resemblance to the nature of the animal of that particular year. Any individual who has taken birth in the year of the ox is bound to have decent organizational talent and they are considerably reliable and loyal. Also such people are patient and strong.

It is believed that the twelve year concept of the animals representing each year is deduced from the Buddhist dharma. According to the history Buddha himself summoned the animals prior to his coming to the Earth. Moreover, a competition was held amongst these animals where the animal that came first would be assigned to the first year.

The race began with heavy contesting between the animals. The cunning rat after making a deal with the cat decided to cheat. All the while it looked like the Ox would win the race as it maneuvered through the crowd. But the ox was unaware of the fact that the clever rat was sitting on his back all through the race and when he came close to the ending line, the rat jumped off his back and became the winner.

The first year of the twelve year cycle as a consequence of the race was the year of the rat as he managed to finish the race in first position. This year is followed by the year of the ox as the rightly deserving animal came second unfortunately. Then the ox is followed by the rest of the animals on the basis of the position they finished the race in. the Last in the race was the pig!

If you are in a doubt as to why just twelve animals came to Buddha and why only these specific animals came, then do not look for any answers to such questions. As a matter of fact, this is nothing but an ancient culture which has been just made alive up till now and is strongly followed. As a token of honor and appreciation for their coming, Buddha assigned a year each to the animals.

Chinese new year animals are a wonderful way to introduce the festival to children. If you want to know about other fun activities for Chinese new year follow the hyperlinks.
